Cancellations and Missed Appointments
All clients are expected to attend their sessions on time. A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required for rescheduling or canceling an appointment, not including weekends. So, if you wish to cancel a Monday therapy session, you must do so by the appointment time on the prior Friday. You may cancel any appointment by emailing your counselor: Bill English (bill@onpathcounseling.com) or Steve Douglas (steve@onpathcounseling.com). If you have scheduled recurring appointments, canceling an individual appointment will not affect your ongoing calendar. Please let Bill or Steve know if you wish to cancel all future appointments.
OnPath makes exceptions to this cancellation policy in cases of severe or contagious illness or emergency.
Teletherapy and In-Person Sessions
Nearly all counseling is conducted via teletherapy. It is recommended that if you plan to attend therapy using your phone, you have a 5G data plan and connect in a location with 5 bars of bandwidth.
OnPath does not currently offer in-person services regularly, although we can arrange an office in Maple Grove on an ad hoc or one-time basis when needed. At least one week’s advanced notice is needed. An additional $50/hr fee is assessed to cover office rental fees.
Private Pay Advantages
While private pay (sometimes called “cash” pay) is usually more expensive than having insurance pay for your therapy, there are instances where paying cash for your therapy makes sense.
With private pay:
No medical diagnosis becomes part of your medical record, thus removing a potential premium increase or being denied coverage in the future due to a pre-existing condition
Remove any anxiety or worry about insurance denying coverage
Insurance cannot drive the focus, method, or duration of your therapy - those choices are strictly between yourself and your therapist
Enhanced confidentiality
More flexibility in session length and scheduling
More thorough assessment process that can include diagnostic testing
Freedom to choose your therapist without being limited by an insurance company’s network
Focus on well-being rather than treatment of a mental disorder
